The buzz around Hinds (fka Deers) has been deafening the past year. Critics have praised their infectious good nature, their ramshackle shows and their primitive rock. While recent cuts have shown flashes of promise, none of them have matched the goofy charm of early track Bamboo. It’s a catchy, lo-fi outing that sees them flirting with surf rock guitars and off-kilter overlapping vocals. Yet its slacker rock appeal slightly belies the strength and confidence on display by the band. They still need to work some on balancing their strengths, but look for their debut album to be a fun, if imperfect, ride.
