Tame Impala gained international fame from sophomore effort Lonerism, but debut InnerSpeaker was no less a visionary effort. Songs like Lucidity showed a serious-minded take on psychedelic rock that was buoyed by Kevin Parker’s accomplished musicianship. While the stomping, fanfare-less intro is practically glam, the meat of the song is a clear love letter to Revoler-era Beatles. Restless, overwrought drums contrast with Parker’s languid, echoing vocals. Sandwiched between the two is crunching, fuzz-drenched guitar that bleeds into mystical mini-solos. It’s a complex wall of sound that creates a warm blanket from its beautiful density.
