Elvis Costello–Sunday’s Best

Packaged in a woozy waltz, Elvis Costello delivers another shuddering look at the inner lives of the outwardly proper. Sunday’s Best is a fuming indictment of the fascist creep in Britain.  Yet with its circusy sweetness, you could probably play it at a children’s birthday unnoticed.  It’s subversion wrapped up as properly as that which it’s attacking.
