This is admittedly on odd song to pick, but something about Crocodiles’ blissed-out fuzz fest screams summer to me. It’s not a gentle, breezy frolic in the sun, though. Instead, it’s a black leather jacket and wayfarers in the punishing heat of the city type of song. The opening track to sophomore album Sleep Forever, Mirrors builds slowly but deliberately, chugging over a layer of reverb before exploding into a dizzying wall of sound. A daydream about skipping town and leaving behind all the judgmental bastards, it’s thick with synths, feedback and disgust. But there’s a brightness of tone here that keeps the whole thing from being too heavy. The result is a yelping, triumphant scorcher.
