Bob Dylan–Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door

A disappointing film with a mostly forgettable soundtrack by one of the world’s best songwriters, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid did make on major contribution to the universe.  While it’s far from the best work Bob Dylan has ever done, there is something about Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door that seems deserving of its middling ubiquity.  A favorite of the middle-aged and the middle class, it’s far removed from the fiery, political works of Dylan’s youth.  And though he was still far too young at this point to be seriously considering his own mortality, the song is at least a savvy coming to terms with the slope of Dylan’s own life and career.
